The Color Purple

The following either comes from or is inspired by a brief dialogue that has taken place over the last week on my "Talk to Me" Notepad (now deleted). My responses are in bold and in bold and italic.

Write your thoughts here. . .

Why do you like purple flowers so much?
I have no idea. I wish I knew : )

well, in any event, you take nice pictures
thanks

Barth [my cyberpet ...now deleted] is cute… wow, he’s purple too!
Yeah . . . for a long time I believed blue was my favorite color. Now I guess it’s purple. This discussion just reminded my of some dialogue in the book and movie "The Color Purple," that takes place between Celie and Shug, two of the main characters.

Shug: More than anything God love admiration.
Celie: You saying God is vain?
Shug: No, not vain, just wanting to share a good thing. I think it pisses God off when you walk by the color purple in a field and don’t notice it.
Celie: You saying it just wanna be loved like it say in the bible?
Shug: Yeah, Celie. Everything wanna be loved. Us sing and dance, and holla just wanting to be loved. Look at them trees. Notice how the trees do everything people do to get attention… except walk?
[they laugh]
Shug: Oh, yeah, this field feels like singing! (from IMDB)

Hyundai Holi-duh Hatred

If I have to hear that announcer on the new Hyundai commercial say “Happy Holi-duh” one more time, I believe I will have destroy my television. As it is, this commercial has already caused me to resolve to never, ever buy a Hyundai vehicle, regardless of how wonderful they might become in the future.

Thank God for Internet Cafes

The place where I am staying for a Pastor’s Retreat is very, very nice, but it has no internet (intentionally so).  So what’s a boy to do who can’t go more than 48 hours without his “connection?”  I’ll tell you what he does . . . he looks for the nearest internet cafe.  Sugarcreek, Ohio (the self-styled Switzerland of Ohio) has a great one called Mocha Cafe (not all that original, but hey . . . the coffee is great, the service is great, and the wifi and refills are free).  If only I had something more of interest to say in this post.  Alack and alas, I do not.

Was Steve Irwin a Christian?

Since my post on Steve Irwin’s death and our human tendency towards voyeurism, I have been getting a lots of hits on this blog from folks who have googled something along the lines of “Steve Irwin Christian?” or “Was Steve Irwin Christian.” This has happened on the average of 2 or 3 times each day.

A look at the Blogflux statistics of another blogger confirms that this has been a widespread phenomenon, as this graph and stats show:

I have no idea why the eternal fate of this person’s soul has so intrigued so many people, but let me give you my answer to the question that seems to be out there.

Was Steve Irwin a Christian?

I have no idea, and neither does anyone else. In fact, the only being who does know is God, and as far as I know, God has given no definite indication of Irwin’s fate to anyone. To this I would simply add the following:

pray for Irwin’s family and friends in their time of grief, and if it is part of your religious tradition, pray for Steve as well.

directions: type “[your name] is”, including the quotes, into a google search. cut-and-paste the first ten responses that work. just pull the answers right out of the excerpt google shows you, don’t click the link and search around. the only rule is that each one has to start with “[your name] is…”
