Here is my understanding of the gospel in three sentences. I believe Frederick Buechner said something like the first one before, and I don’t know where the second comes from, but they both summarize the good news for me.
- There is nothing I can ever do to make God love me any more than God already does; and there is nothing I can ever do to make God love me any less.
- Every sin I have ever committed has been forgiven by God through Jesus and and every sin I could or will ever commit has already been been forgiven as well.
- All I ever need to do is to accept God’s love and forgiveness; nothing more is required.
