You know, something that I didn't see covered here was that people expect that the church will be the church. People are so busy changing things to suit the world, instead of changing things to suit The Word. Your writing here:

"...It is the frantic search for money for a church more preoccupied with keeping a roof over its head than it is with proclaiming the gospel.
It is people not concerned about their spiritual well-being,
not interested in growing in their faith,
satisfied to put their time in on a Sunday morning,
and not have to think about their faith again for a week,
a month or more.
That, my friends, is death."

... is very telling. How did things get that way? Things were changed. The sunday school is empty because people convinced themselves that they needed to invent "Super Spastic Sunday SuperKids FunFunFun!" festivals in their place. Do you remember playing with all the other kids after Sunday school? I sure do. How about fidgeting around on the chair like it was on fire when things WAY beyond our years were being discussed for the older kids sake? Yep, me too. So who's parents decided that a child couldn't fidget for a few minutes?

Some kid complained about being bored. Rather than simply being made to attend and told that it would make a lot more sense as we went along, they said let us entertain the kids at all costs. Well, the TV is better at entertaining so when we turned ourselves into entertainers, rather than educators, we simply couldn't compete.

All over. Now those kids have kids, and they will not be coming back without an act of God. Those kids, kids will not even remember that anyone they know ever went to the church.

Basically we entertained them to death.

Thank you for the very astute observations.

God help us all.
