The great American humorist Will Rogers was born today in 1879.  He was and is well known for his wit and one-liners.  Some of which were:

“Be thankful we’re not getting all the government we’re paying for.”
“Diplomacy is the art of saying ‘Nice doggie’ until you can find a rock.”
“I belong to no organized party. I am a Democrat.”
"A fool and his money are soon elected.”

On this day in 1924, the first woman governor in the United States was elected in Wyoming: Nellie T. Ross.

Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated by a Jewish extremist after speaking at a peace rally in Tel Aviv on this date in 1995.

Actor Ralph “Wax on, wax off” Macchio is 47 today.

Former CBS Evening News Anchor, Walter Cronkite, turns 92 today, and has he was wont to say, "That’s the way it was.”
