Any regular regular reader of this blog knows that I love movies. I love all kinds of movies – comedies, dramas, independent, foreign, animated, sci-fi, and on and on. But despite my love of film, I have never had the privilege of watching all of the best picture nominees for the Academy Awards prior to the Oscars being televised. This year will be different. On February 23rd, the day before the Oscar ceremony, I will be attending (and have already ordered the tickets for) screenings of all five best picture nominees: Juno, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Michael Clayton and Atonement. This will be made possible in part by the fact that I have Sunday, February 24th off and so I won’t be doing my usual work on my sermon on the day before.
The cost for this moviepalooza will be $30.00, which includes tickets for all five films, a large popcorn, and large soda with free refills all day!!! The regular cost for a large soda and popcorn at the cinema is at least $10.00 alone, leaving the individual film tickets at a price of $5.00 a piece. Quite a bargain, if you ask me.
If anyone wants to join me, we can meet at the Neshaminy Mall outside Philly at 11:00 am for a day of movie-going pleasure. Just make sure you buy your tickets soon and email me to let me know you’ll be there.

That’s right, for one day and one day only, AMC Theatres will screen all five best picture nominees for those who want to head into the Oscars with an all-knowing state of mind. The screenings will take place on February 23, the day before the Oscar ceremony, and all you have to do is cough up $30 and find an AMC Theatre near you that’s participating in this special event. In case you’re wondering what that thirty bucks gets you, be aware that, aside from admission to all five films, you also get a free large popcorn (estimated at $1,375) and free refills all day long. Did you hear that people — free friggin’ refills! The day shall begin at 11am with a screening of Michael Clayton and conclude at 9pm with No Country for Old Men. from Watch All Best Picture Nominees in One Day! by Erik Davis posted on Tuesday, 05 February 2008.

Can’t make it, although it sounds like a great time. I haven’t seen any of those yet. I especially want to see Atonement, Juno, and maybe There Will Be Blood (I’m a big fan of DDL). Have a great time, and tell us all your pick for best!
