One day about forty years ago an atheist asked the radical Southern Baptist preacher, Rev. Will D. Campbell, if he could sum up the Christian religion in ten words or less. Will thought for a few moments and then,in his typically abrupt fashion put his understanding of Christianity into nine words. He replied, “All men are bastards but God loves us anyway.” In more recent years, Will has pared his understanding of Christianity down to two words. He now summarizes with them: “Grace trumps.”
