Sick – Physical Illness and the Making of a Blog Opportunist

This has not been my best couple of days. On Monday evening at a church meeting I began to feel I little sick – queasy, but amazingly enough (or not), the feeling went away almost as soon as the meeting was over. Tuesday was not too bad, but then yesterday I began to get this “flu-y” feeling, if you know what I mean. I began to feel a little feverish, and then just weak – my joints all sore. This was soon followed by an itch in my throat and lungs. In other words I began to feel like crap.

This morning I had to make the 3 hour round trip journey to take my lovely daughter back to school (I have her here at my home once a week for an overnight in addition to the usual custody visits), and it was all I could do to get home, crawl underneath some covers and fall asleep. I slept from 10 am to 5:35 pm. What a waste of a day! I know I am sick and all, but I just hate the idea of wasting all that time, especially when I could be working on my sermon, getting the Sunday bulletin ready, or posting to my blog ; )

Anyway, imagine my surprise after I woke up, ate some supper (thanks to Joy!!!!) and then checked on my blog stats to find that as of 7:00 pm, I have had over 743 page views today (over 400 more than my previous high). And to what do I owe this honor? It is all due to my post Was Steve Irwin a Christian? I am amazed at how popular this post has become. Now, if you type in “Steve Irwin Christian” in Google, my blog post is the first item mentioned. I guess this is my 15 seconds of fame. Well . . . it could be worse.

Of course, I knew that by creating said post my blog traffic would increase. I just didn’t think it would see this big a jump. In any case, I am still physically sick, and now I have to deal with the psychological implications of being a blogging opportunist. Writing a post with one of the sole intents being increasing my readership. “Woe is me. I am a man of unclean lips and live among a people of unclean lips.” Gentle readers, please forgive me.

  1. I found your blog in searching Christian and illness and found it interesting. Thank you for sharing your heart and the ups and downs of illness with your readers. Every little bit allows people to know the daily-ness of illness and hopefully become even more compassionate towards those they love. I’m heading over to the Steve Irwin post now, out of curiousity!

    Blessings,
    Lisa
